Skin Resurfacing uses laser technology to decrease wrinkles and scars as well as improve the texture and tone of the skin. The laser allows a single layer of skin to be removed at a time and avoids the transfer of heat to surrounding tissue so that healthy tissue is not damaged. The old skin can safely be removed allowing fresh skin to grow.
Skin resurfacing is an outpatient procedure that usually takes between thirty minutes and an hour and a half. Recovery time is approximately one hour at the facility. Complete healing of the outer surface of the skin takes approximately ten to fourteen days and during this time cosmeceuticals are applied to help the skin heal faster. A sunburn type redness is apparent for six weeks to six months but can be covered with makeup. Sunscreens must be worn daily after this procedure.
