"Breast lift", or mastopexy is performed to remove excess breast tissue and skin and to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Implants can be inserted at the same time to increase the volume.
Many women have lost skin elasticity from weight loss, pregnancy, breast feeding and aging.
There are many variations in the surgical technique used for lifting the breast. The size, shape, and extent of sagging are factors to consider in determining the best technique for you.
Mastopexy is performed in an outpatient facility under general anesthesia. The procedure takes 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours. You will need to restrict your activities for several weeks post operatively. There may be loss of sensation associated with this procedure.
You may gradually resume activities over a period of several weeks.
